Money services industry regulation bill signed
Apr 09, 2012 - Tampa Bay Business Journal

Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill on Friday focused on cutting back workers’ compensation fraud.

The bill, which cracks down on check-cashing businesses that have been helping criminals commit fraud through workers’ compensation, was sponsored by Jacksonville state Rep. Daniel Davis and Jacksonville state Sen. John Thrasher.

The bill was a priority for state Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater.

“Workers’ compensation fraud can be debilitating for many hardworking and law-abiding small businesses. … Fraud that strangles economic recovery must be stamped out,” Rep. Daniel Davis said in a press release.
