First John Thrasher TV Ad Airs in Race for Senate District 8

Jacksonville, Fla. – John Thrasher, Republican Candidate for State Senate District 8, last week began airing his first TV ad, which focuses on his record as a proven reformer and his focus on the economy and jobs.  Thrasher is seeking re-election to Senate District 8, which consists of parts of Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Volusia Counties.

The ad highlights Thrasher’s record of fighting taxes and cutting spending, noting that during his time in the Florida Senate spending was cut by $6 billion and Florida’s budget was balanced without adding new taxes, while still dedicating money to education and protecting financial reserves.  In addition, Thrasher also promises to do everything he can to make Washington balance its budget and fight the government takeover of health care, while making jobs priority No. 1 in Northeast Florida.

“I am confident that my message will resonate with the voters of Northeast Florida,” said Thrasher.  “We are in tough economic times right now and our community needs to elect a candidate who will be able to turn it around, bring jobs to our district and state and balance the budget, all while fighting to keep our taxes low.  And I am that candidate.”

Thrasher currently represents Florida Senate District 8, which includes parts of Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Volusia Counties.  He also serves as the interim chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.  From 1998 to 2000, Thrasher served as the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, championing historic legislation, such as “Three Strikes, You’re Out,” “10-20-Life,” “A+ Education Plan” and the largest tax cut in Florida history.  Thrasher was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1992 and was subsequently re-elected.  Additionally, Thrasher served as a soldier in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970 before he was honorably discharged and awarded multiple decorations.  Thrasher graduated from Florida State University with a Juris Doctorate in 1972.  Thrasher is married to Jean Thrasher and has three children and eight grandchildren.
