John Thrasher Announces Endorsement by Florida Chamber of Commerce

Jacksonville, Fla. – John Thrasher, Republican Candidate for State Senate District 8, today announced he received the endorsement of the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Thrasher is seeking re-election to Senate District 8, which consists of parts of Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Volusia Counties.

“On behalf of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, Florida’s largest business advocate, representing more than 139,000 businesses and organizations of every size, sector and region, I am happy to announce that we have chosen to endorse John Thrasher in his race for Senate District 8,” said Mark Wilson, president and CEO of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.  “We believe that if John is elected to the Florida Senate he will help produce sustained economic growth and promote Florida’s competitiveness in world markets.  In addition, it is clear that John understands that more government isn’t the solution to growing our economy, and he will be a leader who will not back down in the fight to get our economy growing again.”

“I am grateful that the Florida Chamber has chosen to endorse my candidacy,” said Thrasher.  “The recovery of our district and state’s economy has been a cornerstone of my campaign.   And if re-elected to the Florida Senate, I pledge to encourage job creation and economic growth, while at the same time fighting to limit government regulation and intrusion in an effort to attract new business to our state, as well as making the state a better place to do business for existing companies.”

The Florida Chamber of Commerce was established in 1916 as Florida’s first statewide business advocacy organization.  The Florida Chamber is the state’s most powerful federation of employers, chambers of commerce and associations, representing more than 139,000 grassroots members with more than 3 million employees. The Florida Chamber unites Florida’s business community with its powerful combination of legislative, grassroots and political tools.

Thrasher currently represents Florida Senate District 8, which includes parts of Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Volusia Counties.  He also serves as the interim chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.  From 1998 to 2000, Thrasher served as the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, championing historic legislation, such as “Three Strikes, You’re Out,” “10-20-Life,” “A+ Education Plan” and the largest tax cut in Florida history.  Thrasher was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1992 and was subsequently re-elected.  Additionally, Thrasher served as a soldier in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970 before he was honorably discharged and awarded multiple decorations.  Thrasher graduated from Florida State University with a Juris Doctorate in 1972.  Thrasher is married to Jean Thrasher and has three children and eight grandchildren.
