John Thrasher Announces Endorsement by Police Benevolent Association

Jacksonville, Fla. – John Thrasher, Republican Candidate for Florida Senate District 8, today announced he received the endorsement of the Florida Police Benevolent Association, Inc. (PBA).  Thrasher is seeking re-election to Senate District 8, which consists of parts of Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Volusia Counties.

“We are happy to announce our endorsement of John Thrasher for Senate District 8,” said Vincent L. Champion, president of the Coastal Florida PBA.  “Florida’s law enforcement and corrections officers are confident that John Thrasher will continue to be a committed supporter of law enforcement agents in our communities, and we look forward to continuing to work with him in the Florida Legislature.”

“I am deeply grateful to the PBA for choosing to endorse my re-election campaign,” said Thrasher.  “Law enforcement agents play a vital role in keeping our communities safe.  And, I look forward to the opportunity to continue being a voice for them in the Florida Senate, and make certain that they have the tools necessary to serve and protect the people of Northeast Florida.”

The PBA was founded in 1972, by a small group of law enforcement officers.  The goal of the PBA is to provide Florida’s law enforcement and corrections officers with a strong and effective political voice before legislative and local government bodies, and to protect Florida’s law enforcement and corrections officers from any and all sources that attack their salaries, pensions or working conditions.  The PBA has more than 36,000 members.

Thrasher currently represents Florida Senate District 8, which includes parts of Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Volusia Counties.  He also serves as the interim chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.  From 1998 to 2000, Thrasher served as the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, championing historic legislation, such as “Three Strikes, You’re Out,” “10-20-Life,” “A+ Education Plan” and the largest tax cut in Florida history.  Thrasher was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1992 and was subsequently re-elected.  Additionally, Thrasher served as a soldier in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970 before he was honorably discharged and awarded multiple decorations.  Thrasher graduated from Florida State University with a Juris Doctorate in 1972.  Thrasher is married to Jean Thrasher and has three children and eight grandchildren.
