John Thrasher Celebrates Victory in General Election for Senate District 8
Jacksonville, Fla. – John Thrasher tonight celebrated his victory in the General Election race for State Senate District 8.
“I am honored and humbled that the voters of Senate District 8 have, once again, chosen me to represent them in the Florida Senate,” said Thrasher, who celebrated his victory tonight at the Hyatt Regency in Jacksonville. “I am particularly grateful to my volunteers, my friends and my family for their steadfast commitment to my campaign. I could not have achieved this victory tonight without the hard work and dedication of these individuals, and for that I am truly thankful.”
“Today, the voters of Northeast Florida affirmed that our conservative message of keeping taxes low, reducing wasteful government spending and growing our job base and local economy is the right one for Senate District 8,” said Thrasher. “And as a member of the Florida Legislature, I will continue to uphold our district’s conservative principles by doing all I can to make Washington balance their budget, to defeat Obamacare, and to continue to stand up for our Second Amendment rights and pro-life issues.”
Thrasher will continue to represent Florida Senate District 8, which includes parts of Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Volusia Counties. He also serves as the interim chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. From 1998 to 2000, Thrasher served as the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, championing historic legislation, such as “Three Strikes, You’re Out,” “10-20-Life,” “A+ Education Plan” and the largest tax cut in Florida history. Thrasher was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1992 and was subsequently re-elected. Additionally, Thrasher served as a soldier in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970 before he was honorably discharged and awarded multiple decorations. Thrasher graduated from Florida State University with a Juris Doctorate in 1972. Thrasher is married to Jean Thrasher and has three children and eight grandchildren.
