National Federation of Independent Business Endorses John Thrasher

Jacksonville, Fla. – John Thrasher, Republican Candidate for State Senate District 8, today announced he received the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). Thrasher is seeking re-election to Senate District 8, which consists of parts of Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Volusia Counties.

“NFIB is honored to announce its endorsement of John Thrasher’s campaign for Senate District 8,” said Bill Herrle, executive director of NFIB/Florida. “John Thrasher is a champion of the issues that NFIB fights for every day.  Our mission is to protect our members’ right to own, operate and grow their own business to ensure that their business succeeds, and knowing that John has a proven record for standing up for small and independently-owned businesses, we are proud to support him in his race for Florida Senate.”

“I appreciate NFIB and thank them for their support of my campaign,” said Thrasher. “I believe it is vital that we continue to protect and sustain small businesses in our state and district.  If elected, I intend to cut regulations and streamline business practices in our state in an effort to foster a pro-small business environment, and I look forward to the opportunity to work alongside NFIB on these important issues.”

NFIB, founded in 1943, is the leading small business association representing small and independent businesses. A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, NFIB represents the consensus views of its members in Washington and all 50 state capitals, and its mission is to promote and protect the right of our members to own, operate and grow their businesses.

Thrasher currently represents Florida Senate District 8, which includes parts of Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Volusia Counties.  He also serves as the interim chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.  From 1998 to 2000, Thrasher served as the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, championing historic legislation, such as “Three Strikes, You’re Out,” “10-20-Life,” “A+ Education Plan” and the largest tax cut in Florida history.  Thrasher was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1992 and was subsequently re-elected.  Additionally, Thrasher served as a soldier in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970 before he was honorably discharged and awarded multiple decorations.  Thrasher graduated from Florida State University with a Juris Doctorate in 1972.  Thrasher is married to Jean Thrasher and has three children and eight grandchildren.
